Although primarily a personal computer dealer and distributor for Hewlett-Packard, Compaq and IBM, the Leeds-based Holdene Group has come up with a personal computer range to rival the likes of Amstrad and Commodore. On show was the obscurely named Anita range of MS-DOS personal computers. The machines are manufactured from the board level up by Holdene and are aimed at the public sector and large businesses. Beginning with an Intel 80286-based machine with 1Mb of RAM, 20Mb hard disk and six AT, 2 XT expansion slots, prices start at UKP1,100. Support, often a weak part of low end personal computer sales, is guaranteed for 10 years, offered by the company through its Holdene Service division. Anita was launched 18 months ago and has a user base of about 3,000. Users include organisations such as the Home Office’s Immigration Department and the UK’s National Health Service.
