The BlackBerry Enterprise Server is accredited and approved by the Communications and Electronics Security Group for the communication of data at the Restricted level, and is the only mobile data system currently approved for use by the Ministry of Defence.
Colonel David Jones, IPTL, defense fixed network, MOD, said: I am really pleased to see this service will bring genuine benefit to the working lives of MOD people. Being able to see and respond to time sensitive information on the move is critical to the Defence staff of today.
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server enables secure wireless access to email as well as phone and organizer access. In addition to having the ability to manage policies and access rights, IT decision makers can also remotely control, shut-down and wipe any BlackBerry smartphone that has been lost or stolen.
BT said the offering will enable military personnel, civil servants and their industry partners to securely carry out their day-to-day responsibilities, wherever they are.
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server will be available through Defence Fixed Telecommunications Service delivered by BT on behalf of the MOD. There will be a choice of two smartphones: the BlackBerry 8700v and BlackBerry 8707v.
