Xbox benefited significantly from the launch of Splinter Cell and its latest bundle deal, seeing its sales surge by 42 per cent to over 21,000 units. GameCube, however, trails badly with sales of just over 10,000 units; still a significant improvement on the previous week, but the utter lack of high profile titles for the system is to blame for what is effectively a flop Christmas in Europe for the Cube.

Game Boy Advance sold 27,000 units in the same week, a major boost undoubtedly fuelled by its status once again as a much-coveted Christmas present. Despite the growing installed base of the console, however, the software market for GBA titles is stagnant – with last month showing little appreciable growth in unit sales over the same month in 2001, and in fact registering a significant drop in the value of the market.
