Those most traditional British figures – police officers on their beat – could soon be a walking TV station. Plans are afoot to equip them with a digital helmet which will transmit and receive video images over a digital wireless network called Tetra. According to the Sunday Times, a 1.5bn pound project will fund the technology which will enable each officer to transmit pictures of street scenes back to headquarters. Once the system comes in, their clients will be framed – in a high-quality digital pictures at the scene of a crime.
