It seems traditional methods of communicating with the Almighty are no longer sufficient in this technological age. A UK church in Sunderland has caused a furore by opening a Cyber cafe in its hallowed premises, comprising 20 computers hooked up to the internet. The Bishop of Durham, in whose diocese the church of St Michael and All Angels sits, is all in favor of the move, which he believes will enable the church to play the traditional role of monastery, a place of learning as well as worship. Opponents are clearly worried about the type of ‘learning’ the internet will offer.
