The Child Exploitation and Online Protection agency will be officially unveiled in London and those behind the scheme say the agency will be employing fresh tactics to tackle the crimes under its mandate.
Among the measures being employed, the CEOP will create websites containing fake images to lure pedophiles into disclosing their credit card details so they can be traced.
As well as this, police officers will be deployed to roam chat rooms posing as children in order to identify offenders. While not confirmed, one area the agency is said to be paying particular attention is the world of online games. The industry has seen explosive growth in recent years and the agency is concerned about pedophiles using these online environments to groom children.
The agency also intends to establish websites through which children can report abuse and learn more about protecting themselves.
