Cambridge data search and software firm Autonomy has entered into a partnership with a UK government agency to license its Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) software for regulatory and compliance for "Protect" applications.

The firm said IDOL is a smart program that can analyse and index video content helping users to search for specific phrases or incidents in long video files.

The deal is a seven-figure one, the enterprise software company said, without revealing the actual figure.

The contract is reportedly the ninth for the software firm. Earlier this month, the company announced contract wins with supermarket groups Ahold and Safeway, US insurer Allstate, US telecoms group Verizon Communications and European news channel Euronews.

It has also signed deals with a US law firm and hedge fund.
