The UB Networks Inc unit of Tandem Computers Inc is leaping aboard the Internet by proxy, buying undisclosed equity stakes in two start-up companies as part of new venture at the networking equipment company to help companies set up business on the Internet. To that end, UB Networks Inc has established technology-development partnerships with the two companies, Knowledge Adventure Worlds Inc – the New York company planning the Worlds Fair on the Internet (CI No 2,544), and Internet Media Services Inc. Knowledge Adventure Worlds’ pitch is software intended to give personal computer users the illusion of exploring three-dimensional space with other personal computer users. Internet Media Services, Palo Alto, specialises in helping companies to begin using the World Wide Web of the Internet.
