Two of ICL Plc’s software and service businesses, Manufacturing Systems Porfolio Ltd and ICL Enterprise Systems, worked to win the ?4.5m contract with British Steel Plc to streamline operations at eight continental distribution bases (CI No 2,452): ICL Enterprise Systems will be prime contractor responsible for project and risk management, system design and integration Manufacturing Systems will provide the Modus stockholding package; the system will also incorporate Coda Plc ledger accounting systems with the Informix relational database and enquiry reporting software; seven ICL DRS 6000 Unix servers, 500 personal computers and terminals, and Ethernet local networks will be used to run the system; implementation, staff training and support in the native languages of the eight companies will be handled by the SIAC ICL subsidiary in Holland; implementation is to start in early next year at two of British Steel’s distribution companies at Maastricht in the Netherlands.
