TWO EUROPEAN CONSORTIA SEEK MANUFACTURING AGREEMENTS WITH MOTOROLA AND ERICSSON

Two rival European consortia to manufacture equipment for the embryonic digital cellular telephone system planned for the 1990s are beginning to coalesce around Motorola and Ericsson: moving in around Motorola are British Telecom, Alcatel and GEC, while Ericsson already has an agreement with Siemens, and is ready to welcome the Orbitel joint venture of Racal and Plessey.
