Microblogging site Twitter has launched a new developer site, dev.twitter.com for third party applications developers.

Twitter revealed the new site while announcing that the number of registered applications built for the Twitter "ecosystem" has crossed one million.

Around 750,000 developers worldwide have contributed to the apps, said Twitter.

The company has said that the new site for developers is "a new home to support the Twitter community better."

It said that developers would have an online discussion board besides improved search, better documentation, and apps management system.

The new site also connects developers and has better references, said the company.

A year ago, the number of registered apps in the microblogging site were 150,000.

Twitter said in a blog, "Apps help people understand and make the most of Twitter, whether they’re on the web, on mobile, and even watching television."

In May this year, Twitter finalised a deal to acquire London-based social media aggregator TweetDeck.
