Twitter rolls out ‘while you were away’ feature

It will highlight important tweets at the top of the home screen.

By CBR Staff Writer

Twitter has started rolling out a new feature dubbed ‘while you were away’, which highlights important tweets users might have missed while they were offline.

The new feature will showcase the important tweets at the top of the home screen, a feature which is similar to Facebook’s ‘News Feed’, where popular posts are presented above the rest.

After users scroll down the chronological updates will appear.

The new feature is a part of the micro blogging site’s previously announced "Timeline Highlights" when the company said: "Every time you open the Twitter app, you’ll see something great."

According to Twitter, the new feature is designed to prevent important tweets from going unnoticed as about 500 million tweets are sent every day and users following hundreds of accounts.

The Guardian reported, ‘while you were away’ feature is a part of Twitter’s plan soar up its user base and compete with Facebook which has 1.3 billion users.

Twitter currently has more than the 284 million users which is far less compared to Facebook.
