Twitter has introduced a new feature that allows customising timelines in TweetDeck and facilitates users to follow a particular trend without depending on the hashtag system.

Tweets from other users can be added to the timeline by just dragging and dropping them or through the use of keyboard shortcuts.

Twitter product manager Brian Ellin said that the company is introducing custom timelines to give users more control over how tweets are organised and delivered on the Twitter platform.

"Share the best tweets about a topic you care about, or an event — planned or unplanned — that’s happening right now," Ellin said.

"Whether you want to collect the best tweets about a TV show or help people find the latest information about fast-moving real-time situations, custom timelines let you give everyone a place to follow along."

According to the micro-blogging network, each timeline is open and would have its own page on the website, which would facilitate users to follow down any timeline in real time as more tweets are added.

Twitter’s move to enable custom timelines to be embedded across the web would also boost its visibility as it is working to grab new users and serve adverts to a more audience.

The micro-blogging site has recently launched the alpha testing phase for the development of the micro-blogging application for Android platform users.

The latest move follows Twitter’s initial public offering (IPO) and its value hit $24bn after it raised $1.82bn in by selling 70 million shares.
