Twitter revels in Ed Balls day

The fourth anniversary of Ed Balls tweeting his own name has seen him become one of the most mentioned politicians on Twitter.

By James Nunns

Ed Balls is hot on the tail of Ed Milliband with the politician being given his own unofficial day on Twitter.

Balls has become one of the top tending politicians in the UK, as the social networking site celebrates the fourth anniversary of him accidentally tweeting his own name.

Ed Balls has been the third most mentioned politician on Twitter in the past 24 hours, according to data from the ElectUK app.

The app was built by Tata Consultancy Services to help voters track, visualise and share Twitter trends around the UK General Election.

It was found that over 10% of all tweets about UK politicians in the past 24 hours have been about Ed Balls and only Ed Miliband (24.9%) and David Cameron (19.9%) were discussed more.

However, while he has been mentioned a lot, it was found that 81.2% of the mentions have been neutral, with 13.1% positive and 5.7% negative.

So far Tata‘s Big Data software PeriVista has analysed over 8 million tweets around the election.
