Twitter is planning to launch a new private messaging app, enabling users to send and receive direct messages from others without having to follow one another.

The micro-blogging website intends to introduce a separate direct-messaging app, following in the foot-steps of Facebook, and mobile apps including WhatsApp, Line and WeChat, according to AllThingsD.

Reports also suggest that Twitter has been exploring the way Snapchat users engage with each other, hinting to a similar feature for its new messaging app.

However, one of the Twitter’s recently launched updates to the Android app reportedly makes use of Snapchat’s in-message illustration features.

The self-destruct messaging service allows users to capture and share images, videos and text with selecting buddies for a short period.

The micro-blogging site also filed for a $1bn initial public offering (IPO), while it is also seeking an extensive $1bn loan ahead of going public.
