Twitter making Windows 8 App

The application will be released in a few months.

The new app will be good news for Microsoft as critics say the new Windows 8 is lacking in applications.

"Windows 8 needs a great Twitter app," said the microblogging service tweeted. "So we’re building it. Looking forward to sharing it with you in the months ahead."

Other companies including Dropbox, ESPN, Expedia and USA today have teamed up with Microsoft to have their applications on Windows 8.

"The developer opportunity on Windows has never been greater. Between expected PC shipment volumes in the coming year and the incredibly flexible terms of the Windows Store, the path to app monetization on Windows represents a huge business opportunity," said Steve Guggenheimer, Corporate vice president at Microsoft.

The company has been persistent in encouraging developers to build applications for the Microsoft platform as the company wants to show that applications are at "center of the Windows experience."

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said the company has sold four million upgrades to Windows 8 operating system (OS) since its launch last week.

At the company’s annual Build developer conference, Ballmer said that tens of millions of businesses have also switched to the latest version of Windows.

"The level of enthusiasm and desire to learn about the new Windows 8 computers has really been remarkable," he said. "Hundreds of millions of Windows systems will be sold in the next year."
