Twitter has launched trends in 100 more cities around the world including twelve new UK cities.

The local trending feature allows users to see what’s happening in their city and get involved in conversation easily.

"People around the world turn to twitter to talk about a range of topics – from football to giving thanks to sharing information and resources during natural disasters and emergencies," said Twitter.

"This is why Twitter uniquely captures the pulse of the planet, and the pulse of your city: by surfacing the topics that people care about. We’ll continue to add Trends locations so that it’s easy for more people to quickly see what others are talking about, globally and locally."

The addition of new cities now means that Twitter can offer breaking news in more than 200 locations worldwide.

The new UK cities added to local trending topics are: Belfast, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham, Portsmouth and Sheffield.

The feature had been already available in London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester.

"Regional trends give you a great flavour of what’s happening in different parts of the UK, said Twitter in a blog post.

Users can browse any of the new locations by clicking "Change" in the Trends sidebar.
