A high court judge has issued an injunction that for the first time places a ban on publishing information on any social network or media including Twitter or Facebook.

The order, made by Justice Baker in the court of protection, extends to other media as well.

The order came after tweets started appearing on Twitter that were about identities of celebrities involved in "superinjunctions". The information had wrongly named Jemima Khan as one of them.

The case in question is about a woman, "M", who has been in "a minimally conscious state" after a swelling of the brain stem in 2003, when she was 43, resulted in serious illness. Her mother applied to the court of protection for an euthanasia-like order for "M".

In the first injunction, Justice Baker had banned the media from both publishing information which could potentially lead to the identification of anyone involved in the case, and also from contacting a list of 65 people, including relatives of "M".
