Twitter has acquired the open-source training provider Marakana for an undisclosed amount.
The transaction is part of the social networking company’s plans to develop a technical training tool called Twitter University.
Following the acquisition, the open-source coding offered by Marakana will be added to Twitter’s current training programmes that include orientation classes for new engineers to iOS boot camp and courses in Java virtual machine coding.
Twitter engineering SVP Chris Fry wrote in a blog post that the company has been working with them for several months.
"The founders, Marko and Sasa Gargenta, have impressed us with their entrepreneurial leadership, commitment to learning and technical expertise," Fry wrote.
With the completion of the transaction, Marakana will join Twitter and will not be offering the courses to individuals and organisations.
The San Francisco-based Marakana claims to have delivered courses in Android, Java, HTML5 and other languages to more than 100,000 software engineers.
