TVDS BUSY BRINGING 16 CHANNEL DISTRIBUTION TO THE UK

With the Ariane 4 launch of the Astra commercial TV satellite now scheduled for 25 past Midnight London time on December 10, British Telecom International’s six-year old TV Distribution Services or TVDS unit is busy elaborating on the role it has played in bringing 16 channel distribution to the UK: switching and signal monitoring facilities installed at Telecom Tower and the Docklands-based London Teleport site are now ready to handle transmission of the 11 UK channels, declared TVDS’ Steve Maine, leaving the company, alongside joint venture partners SES, free to bite its nails, and hope that this time, the thing actually leaves the ground.
