A US District Court Judge has adopted Tumbleweed Communications Corp’s own definition of a Tumbleweed patent. On March 3, 1999, Tumbleweed sued rival DocSpace Co for patent infringement. We have reviewed this matter carefully and we believe that DocSpace has not infringed Tumbleweed’s patent, DocSpace president and CEO Evan Chrapko said at the time. As we have already informed Tumbleweed, Express’ technological processes for electronic document delivery differ significantly from those covered by the Tumbleweed patent… Tumbleweed is nothing more than a single- purpose sending utility. The judge disagreed, but the problem is no longer entirely in DocSpace’s hands. That company is in the process of being acquired by Critical Path Inc.
