MailGate 2.1 for the MailGate 1300 series is the first product release of the anti-spam appliance since Tumbleweed’s March 2004 acquisition of Linux-based anti-spam appliance vendor Corvigo Inc.
The unit uses what Tumbleweed calls Intent-Based Filtering software that is said to need no rules, lists or signatures. The technology categorizes emails based on the intent of the message as opposed to using keyword, Bayesian or heuristic filters.
An optional MailGate anti-virus system based on the McAfee Olympus scanning engine can be run alongside the anti-spam software, the Redwood City, California-based vendor said.
