Troy Group launches serial device servers for vertical M2M applications

Troy Group has introduced a family of serial device servers that enable devices with a serial port to connect to a wired or wireless network. With remote monitoring and control the TROY500 and TROY505 series are described as being ideally suited for applications in the medical industry.

By CBR Staff Writer

The TROY500 series offers RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 serial modes, while the TROY505 series adds the MODBUS protocol used in industrial applications. Both models can be ordered with a wireless LAN option, which aims to allow connection to 802.11b wireless networks and to the 10/100BaseTX Ethernet.

The series contain security features such as 802.1x Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) with Tunneled Transport Layer Security (TTLS) or Lightweight Extensible Authentication Protocol (LEAP), Open System or Shared Key support with Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) encoding, and WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) Personal and Enterprise modes, which utilizes improved encryption via the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP).

A secure wired/wireless OEM module is available for device manufacturers or systems integrators that contain power management capabilities for low power requirements. This allows wireless connectivity to be enabled in battery-operated devices, where minimizing power consumption is critical.

As M2M applications become even more sophisticated, especially in the medical field and other industrial fields, it is important that users have the necessary tools to utilize these applications to their fullest potential, said Harold Yin, executive vice president, Wireless and Connectivity Solutions for TROY Group.

The new Troy serial servers can be configured and managed from one location using TROY’s ExtendView utility, which has network diagnostics, multi-unit configuration, and customization features. They also include a built-in web browser interface allowing configuration from any computer with a web browser.
