TROUBLED BBJ SEEKS TO SELL ITS TODAY APPLICATIONS GENERATOR TECHNOLOGY

By CBR Staff Writer

BBJ Computers Pty, the Melbourne, Australian author of the Today applications generator, is seeking to sell off its technology, following the breakdown of attempts to set up a friendly takeover bid from Australian companies Vertical Software Holdings Pty and Trilogy Business Systems Pty. Computerworld Australia reports that BBJ has placed itself under the control of a mortgagee-in possession – effectively a receiver – due to lack of funds, with daily financil flows now being controlled by accountants Deloitte, Haskins and Sells. BBJ gained a listing on the Sydney Stock Exchange in 1986 in an $Aus2.3m public float. Managing director Max Nicholls said the most likely outcome was that BBJ would be split in half, with each of its major divisions going to a separate buyer – with most interest being centered on the division that handles Today. Today is distributed in the UK by Parsoft Ltd, over in Redhill, Surrey.
