With its ObjectPro PowerBuilder/SQLWindows wannabe tool launched (CI No 2,686), Platinum Technology Inc’s Trinzic Corp has turned its attention to the back-end. It has unveiled RuleServer, which has been described as a three-tier business rules processing engine for applications incorporating interface, data access and application components. The business rules and logic contained within a program are stored in the RuleServer repository, which can be accessed by application clients across the enterprise. RuleServer can be used with Trinzic’s ObjectPro or PowerBuilder and Visual Basic to build the front-end which calls the server. RuleServer uses the Open Software Foundation’s Distributed Computing Environment for communication, naming and security. The development environment goes into beta trials next quarter with OS/2 due to ship this year, with Unix at the beginning of 1996.
