New York-based Trident Technologies Corp and Alcatel SA have introduced the Personal Communications Terminal, a communications device developed for those with hearing and speech impairments; developed and conceived by Trident, it is to be manufactured for the US market by Alcatel, and the initial agreement covers a two-year period with deliveries beginning in the fourth quarter; the terminal measures 9.87 wide by 10.5 deep with a 9 screen, and it plugs into existing phone lines via a standard modular phone cord; the PCT includes a directory of businesses, services and individuals, and other services include electronic mail and the ability to have conversations with up to 20 parties; the device allows users to see a full page of text, displays both sides of a conversation, and it can be used as a terminal or hook up to printers.
