Harpenden-based high speed dial-up communications company Tricom Communications Ltd has announced the acquisition of design and manufacturing company Customised Data Ltd of High Wycombe. The purchase, which was finalised at the end of November 1987, will introduce Customised Data’s Custodian dial access security products to the Tricom range, and it looks for the combination to help it to ?1m to its turnover, currently running at ?3.5m, this year. With 20 employees and sales running at ?500,000 a year before the acquisition, Customised Data will continue to trade under its own name, but will add three Tricom directors. The acqusition of Customised Data by Tricom comes at a time when the industry is feeling the effects of the new Data Protection Act, seen as providing the two companies with an ideal marketing opportunity. In December Tricom also won ?600,000 in equity finance from Schroder Ventures, which now holds 30% of Tricom.
