Olivetti is thrilled that over 20 of its M24s and M28 personal computers survived a fire at its Putney base that shattered windows, melted partitions and warped all the door frames in the ground floor rooms where they were installed, and the company says that all the hard disks on the micros was found to be in perfect working order with data uncorrupted – yes they did have it all backed up on tape – and that the only casualty was one keyboard near the seat of the fire; nevertheless we do not recommend our users attempt this test, it warns.
