TRI Data Corp, Kirkland, Washington, has unveiled a line AT add in boards offering high speed background communication for users of grayscale imaging applications. The product line, called I COM, is claimed to be capable of extracting data from an MS-DOS micro at rates up to 128Kbps, and units are currently being shipped with either a 9,600 bps modem or Switched 56 device running at 56Kbps. I-COM is bundled with selectable image compression software that can significantly reduce both the communication time and the storage requirements for grayscale images TRI says I-COM can transmit a diagnostic-quality medical image in under 30 seconds using the 9,600 bps modem against over 20 minutes when a 2,400 bps modem is used. The product is available now, but the company gave no prices.
