Virus protection company Trend Micro says it intends to develop protection against a new class of viruses that can be embedded in web pages or email (CI No 3463). While the company acknowledges that these internet-aware viruses are not in circulation and pose no immediate threat, it says they signal a new stage in virus development. What makes them particularly nasty is that it takes no action on the users’ part to infect their systems. All users need to do is visit an infected web page or open an email. Trend Micro warns users to be wary of accepting email from unknown senders and to backup their systems frequently. The company promises its own products will be able to detect and remove these viruses by the end of November.
