Trend Micro Inc, the Tokyo-based provider of anti-virus and security software and services, has switched focus in the UK from Fortune 500 firms to the small to medium-sized enterprise market, thanks to a distribution deal with British Telecommunications Plc. BT reckons it has a million SME customers for its internet access service who will provide a waiting customer pool for the Japanese firm. Trend Micro expects to sign up 100,000 of these within two years as customers for its PC-cillin 6 anti-virus software.

PC-cillin 6 scans the software installed on a user’s PC and searches for viruses on emails or net traffic downloaded. It updates itself when rebooted with new viruses logged on Trend Micro’s Virus Encyclopaedia. The software is available to purchase online for 15 pounds ($24) or 20 pounds ($32) from bricks and mortar stores.
