Trend Datalink Ltd has lanched the MC 500 range of data compression multiplexers, claiming them to be the first multiplexers to employ artificial intelligence in data compression. The new multiplexers from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire-based Datalink are available with four or eight input ports, and support most data communications protocols, including SDLC, HDLC, X25 and IBM bisync; they can also operate as a local area network bridge. Datalink will supply the MC 500 multiplexers in the UK, with overseas distribution being handled by Memotec Data Inc, of Montreal, Quebec. The products mark Datalink’s first move into data compression, a capability that the company says will allow users to reduce the number of links required between corporate mainframes and remote workstations. Prices for the multiplexers range from UKP1,000 right up to UKP12,000 depending on the number of ports and networking capabilities.
