While the 56kbps battle is at its apex, Rockledge, Florida based Transend Corp says it has developed the world’s fastest modem, with speeds of 67kbps both upstream and downstream over analog phone lines. Transend – the US subsidiary of South American modem manufacturer Digitel – says the modem requires two phone lines for 67kbps speed and when speed isn’t a priority, can be used with one at 33.6kbps. The Transend 67 comes in two models – an external desktop unit and a central site modem for ISPs – and goes for $600.
