Trafficmaster Plc, the UK group that supplies a traffic warning system to motorists, has linked up with Motorola Inc who to supply systems which deliver data via GSM cell broadcast. The two companies will work together to market the cell broadcast services to vehicle manufacturers, makers of navigation systems and motorists.

In a separate deal, Mannesmann Autocom GmbH is to take up its option to buy a 49% stake in Trafficmaster’s German subsidiary. This is part of a deal, agreed in March, designed to make Trafficmaster’s system the standard for Europe. The company uses sensors alongside major roads to monitor traffic speeds and, when hold-ups are detected, warnings are sent to motorists using the system.
