Toshiba Corp has announced a commitment to maintain the software for its 80286-based J-3100 laptop compatible with the AX IBM- compatible computer standard that has been laid down by a group of 10 companies including Microsoft Corp and Sanyo Electric: both Sanyo and Mitsubishi Electric have announced or are demonstrating AX machines, and Toshiba is keen to link up with the AX group to main-tain visibility for IBM standard, and to com-pete with NEC with its rival PC9800 standard, which still dominates the Japanese market.
