You ain’t seen nothing yet in small form factor disk drives and 1.8 is just the beginning – Toshiba Corp claims to have developed an electric motor just a tenth of an inch in diameter – actually, it is intended to lead to a future generation of miniature machines small enough to travel inside the human body: it said it achieved the tiny size with precision machining, miniature coils and incorporation of an integrated circuit to control the motor’s motion; the electromagnetic motor needs only about 2V to 3V power where previous mini-motors using electrostatic force, while easier to make small, require 100V.
