TOSHIBA READY WITH 80386-BASED T4100 PORTABLE

By CBR Staff Writer

Toshiba Corp has swept almost all before it in the lap-top portable computer market, and is not about to let its grasp slip now. On the stocks are a very low end machine to sell for about UKP800 in the UK, and an 80386-based version of the T3100 AT-alike. The T4100, expected to have an electroluminescent screen, is due out in May and will include 2Mb of memory and 40Mb disk drive. It will also have one full and one half slot. The low-end machine, called the T1000, will be a CMOS 8088-based machine that will feature a new supertwist liquid crystal display that will display 25 lines of 80 characters, but will be significantly smaller than current LCD displays. It will weigh about 7lbs 12oz, and the UKP800 price is expected to include two drives.
