TOSHIBA READIES LOW POWER CONSUMPTION 64 BIT RISC CHIP

Toshiba Corp has announced a 64 bit RISC microprocessor, which it claims has the lowest consumption of any 64 bit RISC component – 1.2W. The TMPR4951F is based on the RISC architecture developed by MIPS Technologies Inc and is intended for use in set-top boxes, laser printers and wireless data devices. The chip will go into volume production in the first quarter 1999.
