TOSHIBA PLANS MAKO THREE-CHIP SET

Toshiba Corp’s Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc is planning to announce a three-chip set called Mako for building 64-bit R4000 RISC-based systems with the Peripheral Component Interconnect bus at Comdex/Fall: the set consists of an Address Control Chip and two identical Data Path Control chips and supports asynchronous bus operation up to 67MHz, four PCI masters, one to eight banks of dynamic random access memory with a maximum of 256Mb and up to 1Mb of second level cache; samples are set for first quarter 1995, with full production expected to begin in late March; the 1,000-up price is $75 per set.
