Toshiba launches Portege M780 tablet, Satellite Pro U500 laptop

Feature Windows 7 Professional, and touch-enabled ReelTime and Bulletin Board applications

Toshiba has launched a new Portege M780 Tablet PC and Satellite Pro U500 laptop with multi-touch display, targeted at students, educators and business professionals through the touch capabilities.

According to Toshiba, the new laptops feature Windows 7 Professional and touch-enabled ReelTime and Bulletin Board applications, which help users find and organise information. The Portege M780 Tablet PC comes with 12.1–inch diagonal LED backlit display, Intel Core processors, DDR3 memory, and eSATA/USB combo port.

In addition, the tablet also includes the company’s EasyGuard technology with hard drive impact sensor and LCD display protection, spill resistant keyboard and PC Health Monitor.

The Satellite Pro U500 laptop has multi-touch features and full mobile performance processors, such as Intel’s new Core technology. It features Intel Graphics Media Accelerator, eSATA/USB Combo port with sleep and charge, hard drive 3D impact sensor, HDMI port, as well as a built-in webcam with face recognition login, the company said.

Carl Pinto, vice president of product development at Toshiba America Information Systems, Digital Products Division, said: “Today, touch enables business and education professionals to create a more interactive and intimate experience for their core audience, and Toshiba’s new laptops help deliver on that promise.

“In addition, our new tablets provide today’s IT professionals with the ability to easily deploy laptops and manage operating systems locally or remotely to ensure content users can access and present data in any environment.”

The Portege M780 Tablet PC is priced at starts at $1,279 MSRP while the Satellite Pro U500 laptop comes in two configurations, one at $949 MSRP featuring an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and an upgraded version featuring Intel Core processor, slot loading DVD super-multi and an LED backlit keyboard, at $1,099.
