Toshiba Corp is using fuzzy theory in a new artificial intelligence system used to control equipment: in trials, the equipment us-ing fuzzy rules ran faster than a more conventional system using feedback control on the basis of set values; a compiler is also used in inference processing and knowledge rules are created on a 32-bit workstation but can be downloaded to a personal computer.
