Japanese companies have discovered that if you want to succeed in the US, you have to do things the American way, even it it means expanding aggressively by acquisition. Accordingly, the Irvine, California-based Toshiba America Information Systems Inc arm of Toshiba Corp has formed Topac USA Inc as a wholly-owned subsidiary with a specific mission to hunt out office automation distribution companies and acquire them to create a new distribution channel for Toshiba products. Topac has already started, buying Omni Business Products Inc, Atlanta, a Toshiba dealer for some six years: it has grown at nearly a 20% compound annual rate in that time.
