Confirming our story of last week (CI No 847), Toshiba America Inc announced that it will be launching the 80386-based T5100 15 lbs portable running Unix System V.3 with Berkeley 4.2 extensions and X-Window at Uniforum next month. The machine will have 4Mb memory, 40Mb hard disk and 1.44Mb 3.5 floppy. It will be shown connected via Ethernet using Toshiba’s optical and compact disk storage. Despite being a portable, it supports up to four users. Toshiba will also launch the T8200, an 80386-based desktop machine using a 20MHz version of the chip. It comes with 80387 maths co-processor, 32Kb cache, 4Mb to 12Mb main memory, and 100Mb Winchester and support for eight users. Toshiba will announce price and distribution at the show. Toshiba is also the first Japanese company to become a sponsor of /usr/group.
