Toshiba Corp has developed what it claims is the world’s fastest personal verification system: the system uses the black and white density pattern on the side of the person’s finger, matching it in 0.1 seconds with a claimed 99.9% accuracy where most verification machines systems currently in use take three to five seconds because of the time taken to sift through a vast amount of information on fingerprints or hand geometry; the new device is expected to sell commercially for less than 1 million yen – that’s $6,500.
