Toshiba Corp has long been perfecting vertical storage techniques for packing more data onto disks, and the company last week announced a 4Mb 3.5 floppy drive, which is upwards-compatible with 1Mb formats. The company has passed the design to six competitors with a view to having them take licences for its manufacture. According to Newsbytes, the drive will initially cost double that of 1Mb drives, but the price is expected to fall once the thing is in volume production.
