Toshiba’s Q3 operating profit has grown to more than double of what it was the previous year.

For the three months to December 31, Toshiba posted a 37.5bn yen ($457.05m) profit, compared with 14.5bn yen a year ago.

The Japanese company has attributed the results to growing sales of NAND flash memory chips and demand for LCD panels used in smartphones and tablets.

In the quarter, electronic devices, including LCDs and flash memory chips, generated 17.2bn yen in operating income after a loss 6.6bn yen a year ago, said the company.

However, the company said the overall outlook is less certain as the market for system chips is weak.

"Although the company has so far recorded higher operating income than originally anticipated, mainly as a result of healthy performances in memories, the LCD business and PC business, the direction of system LSIs is still uncertain at this point," it said.
