Toshiba and Intel said that they will jointly commercialise an educational-use tablet PC designed to facilitate learning. Toshiba plans to launch the new CM1 tablet PC for educational use in the beginning of August, 2010 in the Japanese market.
According to Toshiba, the new CM1 features Windows 7 Professional operating system, Intel Atom Processor N450 CPU, Intel NM10 Express Chipset, a 180 degrees rotatable monitor and a touch screen LCD that supports pen input.
In addition, the PC also includes 160GB/2GB, 100Base-TX/10Base-T, wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g/n), 2 USB ports and 1 RGB.
Toshiba said the new tablet PC is based on its notebook PC technologies and Intel’s Learning Series hardware reference design. It connects with electronic blackboards and projectors wirelessly to enable students both to collaborate and present work.
With this launch, Toshiba and Intel plan to promote ICT-supported education in elementary and junior high schools. Going forward, the two companies plan to collaborate in various ways to foster ICT environments in schools.
