Top 5 slimmest smartphones

A rundown of the best skinny devices around at the moment

By Vinod

As mobile devices become more and more an integral part of our lives, manufacturers have tried new ways in which to make their products stand out. Alongside internal specifications, another way to attract consumers is to offer a striking design, with a slim, svelte form one of the best and most appealing features.

The race to be the skinniest is an ever-evolving one but, as it stands, here is our top five slim-set smartphones…

gionee elife

Gionee Elife S5.5

Announced at Mobile World Congress in February, the Elife S5.5 is hailed by its manufacturer, Chinese company Gionee, as ‘the world’s slimmest smartphone’. Launching in India and China later this month, the device is a mere 5.5mm thick and weighs only 130g, however it features a 5-inch full-HD display powered by a 1.7GHz octa-core processor and 2GB RAM.

Vivo X3

The previous record holder before the Elfie S5.5, the Vivo X3 from Chinese manufacturer BBK measures just 5.57mm across. Launched to compete with the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4, the Vivo X3 offered a more affordable, yet still powerful Android smartphone, featuring a 1.5GHz processor alongside an 8MP rear camera.

Huawei Ascend P6

Announced last year, the Ascend P6 was a key part of Huawei’s product line as it looked to establish itself as a major player in the smartphone market. Measuring 6.18mm across and weighing 120g, the Ascend P6 featured a 4.7in HD screen powered by a quad-core 1.5Ghz processor, as well as a 5MP front camera designed for capturing quality selfies.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Without doubt the most powerful device on this list, Sony’s Xperia Z Ultra includes a 6.4in full HD 1920x1080px screen (the first Android device to do so) powered by a 2.2Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. All of this is packed into a waterproof body just 6.5mm thick weighing 212g, making this a seriously impressive device.

ZTE Grand S

ZTE Grand S

Another device from a Chinese manufacturer, the ZTE Grand S was launched in January 2013, with a successor following a year later. The original device featured a much slimmer body, measuring just 6.9mm thick, but still managed to include a 5in screen, 16GB of storage, and a 13MP rear camera.
