Samsung has unveiled two brand new Galaxy Tab S tablets, its thinnest and lightest tablets to date, bring the competition to rivals such as Apple and Sony.
The tablets come in 8.4- and 10.5-inch versions, and the WQXGA Super AMOLED screen offers some superb quality viewing.
Samsung Electronics IT & Mobile Division CEO and president JK Shin said the tablet is becoming a popular personal viewing device for enjoying content, which makes the quality of the display a critical feature.
"With the launch of the Galaxy Tab S, Samsung is setting the industry bar higher for the entire mobile industry," Shin added.
It’s lighter than the iPad Air!
Yes, despite Apple’s showstopper being incredibly light, it’s still not really as light as actual air. In fact, it’s not even the lightest tablet even more, now that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S has been introduced.
The Tab S weighs just a tiny 465g, and is only 6.6mm.
Galaxy Gifts
The Tab S comes preloaded with lots of Samsung-flavoured freebies, including a free 3 month membership to Marvel Unlimited. Kindle is also offering one free eBook a month to Tab S owners. Google+ users also get a free digital copy of hit space drama Gravity, and a bunch of books for free as well.
And…a free six-month sub to the Wall Street Journal, Livesports TV, and the Washington Post. Also being dished out is a 3 month sub to Bitcasa, with 50GB of storage free for two years.
One impressive screen
The Amoled Tab S screen is ridiculously bright and vibrant, offering a much better viewing experience to the LCD screen of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.
The screen is 2,560 x 1,600 which gives the Tab S a ppi of 287, not bad for a 10-inch tablet.
It’s also got a feature which Samsung has dubbed an ‘Adaptive Display’, which changes the white balance to compensate for changes in ambient light levels. Get you, Samsung.
SideSync
A cool feature called SideSync (which has actually been on the Galaxy Note Pro already) can mirror your Galaxy S5 with the tablet, even including phone calls.
Sharing files between the two devices becomes super easy, and it works on both LTE and Wi-Fi.
Accessories
Like most tablets now, consumers also want a pretty decent keyboard option if need be. Luckily, Samsung has also announced three different covers for the Tab S: the Book Cover, the Simple Cover, and a Keyboard Cover.
The Book Cover has a folding stand that has three different angles to choose from, and the keyboard case is specially designed for the Tab S with similar a similar design like the dimpled back. Samsung said it will also be releasing an official Bluetooth keyboard, an S Action Mouse, a USB LAN Hub, a power saving cable and even some extra battery packs.
