Top 10 HTC One M8 apps

Load your shiny new HTC One M8 with the best apps on the market.

By Ben Sullivan

Were you one of the plucky few who picked up a HTC One M8 straight from release? Or are you counting your pennies right this very moment to go and get HTC’s new flagship? The HTC One M8 was released this week to a fanfare of awe and beauty, and luckily for us, it’s got the specs to back up the metal, sleek style. Here are 10 apps that you absolutely must download onto your new HTC One M8 to make it even better.

VSCO Cam

What better way to showcase your new dual screen camera than with one of the fastest growing, social photography apps. Instagram has been plagues lately with the tag #vsco, which signifies the photos were taken with VSCO camera. The app gives a plethora of filters and tools, making your photos look way more professional than Instagram’s filters. It could even be the next Instagram!

Flipboard

This handsome looking news app will flow with style on your new HTC One M8.. You can add to your profile what genres or sites you want to be in your virtual ‘newspaper’ and then flick through them like you would a real paper. It’s good-looking, useful, and even supports integration with your Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts. You can add stories to your own ‘magazine’ for later reading, and fetch story shorts for offline reading at a later time. I tried out a few news apps apart from this one, including Pulse, one this one just blows the competition straight out of the water.

Sine Mora

Sine Mora, originally developed for next gen consoles, is a great looking shoot ’em up, side scrolling in 3D. The beautiful steam punk visuals are handled with ease by the M8’s processing power, and it’ll be hard to put this game down.

Call of Duty: Strike Team

Another fantasic game, this is as close to first person next-gen gaming as you’ll get on a smartphone. The HTC One M8’s large, crystal clear screen makes playing this Call of Duty spin-off a pleasure.

Lookout Security

What’s the use of having this amazing device in your hands if you’re not going to secure it!? Lookout offers a great all-round free service (which can be upgraded to a paid subscription if you want more features). Every app you download first runs through Lookout so it can make sure it’s safe, as well as routinely running checkups on my device. Lookout also backs up your data onto your account online, and with a premium account, you can safe the web safely and securely and also get a privacy advisor function.

Spotify

Listen to all your favourite music on the go with the SPotify app. It’s not free, but for a small price a month you can stream as much music as your data allows you to, and even download entire playlists of your favourite music for offline listening. This app is functional, handy and works like a charm on the HTC One M8.

All-in-One Tool Box

All-in-One Tool Box allows you to perform many critical and necessary phone functions from one handy interface. It includes a system cleaner, hsitory cleaner…to be honest, all kinds of cleaners. It’s also a task killer, and it can help you manage the battery life better on the HTC One M8. There’s also a large list of plug-ins available from this app, such as a flashlight plugin, compass plugin, and volume settings plugin.
